How coaches and athletes connect

How teams, devices and sharing fit together in Everstride.

Everstride has three moving parts: teams, devices and sharing. Once you understand how they fit together, the rest of the product makes sense.

  1. The coach creates a team.

A team is a group of athletes, such as “Road Squad” or “Juniors”. A coach can have several.

  2. The coach invites athletes.

Athletes can come in through an email invitation, a team link or a team code.

  3. The athlete creates an account and joins.

Athletes make their own account. Their account belongs to them, not to the coach.

  4. The athlete chooses what to share.

Before joining, the athlete sees exactly who the coach is and picks what that coach can see.

  5. The athlete connects a device.

This links a service such as Garmin, WHOOP or Oura. Data starts flowing into Everstride.

  6. The coach sees the data.

Whatever the athlete shared appears on the team dashboard and the athlete’s page.

Each athlete makes four choices when joining a team:

  • Readiness, such as recovery, sleep and HRV.
  • Training, such as workouts, training load and power.
  • Tests & lab results, such as VO2max and lactate tests.
  • Blood & body composition, such as blood tests and weight.

Readiness and Training usually start switched on, and the other two start switched off. Athletes can change any of these before they join. The full list is in Choose what your coach sees.

Everstride doesn’t read the watch directly. It connects to the athlete’s account with the device maker, with the athlete’s permission.

  1. The athlete’s device syncs to its own app as usual, such as Garmin Connect.
  2. That service passes new data to Everstride.
  3. Everstride files it under the right day, using the athlete’s time zone.

This is why new data can take a little while to appear, and why a device has to sync to its own app first. If data stops arriving, see Fix syncing problems.
